Gusau varsity gets NUC accreditation for 28 programmes

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited 28 undergraduate programmes of the Federal University, Gusau (FUGUS).
This is contained in a press statement issued to journalists in Gusau yesterday and signed by the university’s Information Officer, Malam Umar Usman.
The statement hinted that, the accreditation contained in a letter sent to the university through the Vice Chancellor with reference No: NUC/ES/412/ VOL.12/5 titled “Results of the May/June 2018 Accreditation of Academic Programmes in Nigerian Universities” signed by the Director of Accreditation of the commission, Dr.
N.B. Saliu, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary.
According to the letter, 15 programmes got full accreditation while the remaining 13 got interim.
It should be noted that the programmes accredited cut across the three faculties of the university; Faculty of Science, Faculty of Management and Social Science, and Faculty of Humanities and Education.
The programmes that secured full accreditation status are: Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Arabic, Education Arabic Studies, Education Islamic Studies, Education Biology, Education Chemistry, Education English, Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Political Science and Sociology.
“Other programmes offered by the university secured interim accreditation and would be revisited in the next two years and would attain full accreditation as all hands are on deck to ensure that,” the release indicated.
Commenting on the development, the chairperson of the Governing Council of the University, Prof Funmi Togonu Bickersteth, expressed happiness over the results of the accreditation and thanked the university management and entire staff for their sacrifice.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Magaji Garba said despite the challenges faced by the young institution, the management under his leadership had put in their best which had resulted in the successes so far recorded.
