Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has said that his administration would create policies that would enhance youth development in the Council.
Speaking yesterday at the flag-off ceremony of the Council’s 30th anniversary celebrations, which comes up in October, Giri said making the youth self-reliant, resourceful, industrious and creative was one of the focuses of his administration; hence it would always welcome the ideas that would give it the desired leverage.
On the 30th anniversary celebrations, he said there was necessary “because Gwagwalada has moved from scattered rural settlements, when it was created, to semi-modernised communities.”
He said: “As you all know, we have come a long way as a government institution that is saddled with the responsibilities of providing socio-economic relief to our people. But, having said this, I want to believe that we have every cause to celebrate. From our humble backgrounds of scattered rural settlements to more semi-urbanised communities of Gwagwalada township, with the surrounding villages and to the highly bustling commercial town of Zuba, you will agree that despite the challenges of recent times, we need this celebration to remind us of where we are coming from and where we intend to be in the next 30 years.”
He added that the Council was partnering with Celebrity Plus Magazine and Quarters Youth Consultative Association for the celebrations.
The celebrations, Blueprint learnt, would encompass a two-day cultural carnival and exhibition of artefacts.
