‘Gwandara mosque project to gulp N50m’

No less than N50 million is required for the completion of Nyanya Gwandara Central Mosque project embarked upon some years back.
Chief Imam of the Central mosque, Malam Abdulrauf Zakari, who disclosed this to Blueprint, said the project had been going on through the little financial contributions from individuals and corporate organisations.
He said the building had reached the decking level and that they were expecting more monetary contributions from good-spirited individuals and organisations to start the decking.
“Up to N50 million is still required for the project to be fully completed; the arrangement for an Islamic school within the mosque is made; there are also shops in front of the mosque being built.
“It will be used to generate funds that would solve some financial obligations in the mosque, example, water supply, security and salary for the Imam,” he said.
According to the Imam, there is a building committee set up for the project which used to meet and take decisions, noting that “no one will be able to embezzle the money meant for the mosque project.”
He told our correspondent that the population of worshippers at the central mosque had increased drastically with it having two Jumat mosques – the Yoruba mosque and the White mosque.
He said: “Rain has been disturbing; it’s only for the sake of Allah that people do dam the rain and still come to pray; so God should touch the minds of the people to come and assist for the completion of the work.
“Anybody that donates, it’s only God that can reward him, no matter how small; for Allah says if you give, He will reward you.”
