The Nigeria Prisons team on Thursday in Abuja recorded their first point against Owena Kings of Akure in the ongoing Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
Prisons Key Boys drew 36-36 with Owena Kings of Akure male handball team in Day 10 match at the National Stadium.
Owena Kings took control of the first half which ended 18-17, but Prisons Keys boys bounced back to end the game with a draw.
Prisons team struggled to record their first point since the beginning of the competition.
They are 12th on the competition’s table having played nine matches and lost eight.
Owena Kings also played nine games losing seven and drew two, they have two points now and are 11th on the table.
On their performance, Coach Tomi Olatunde of Owena Kings said his team could have won the game if the players played to instruction.
“My players tried their best, we needed a win and not a draw in this game because we have watched the Prisons Keys boys matches.
“We know their strength and their weaknesses, we will work hard to win our next match against Sokoto Rima,” he said.
On his part, the Coach of Prisons Boys keys, Saliu Kulu, said his players played well but could not defeat their opponents.
“My players are learning the game everyday because each team has his style of play, this is the only game that ended in a draw.
“We have played nine games now and we lost eight but I’m happy that my players are gaining experience with each game.
“They must pass through this stage to be better for future competitions, we really want to win this game because our opponents are not strong,” he said.
