Handball tasks corporate bodies on sponsorship

Th e Secretary General, Handball Federation of Nigeria, Malam Mohammed Maigidansama has called on corporate organisations and philanthropist to sponsor active competitions in handball to promote the game. Speaking during an interactive session with handball premier league coaches ahead of the National Open Handball Championship scheduled to take place in Benue between March 19-29, Maigidasama said the only way handball will regain its glorious days in Nigeria is when the federation puts its house in order and corporate bodies step out to sponsor active competitions for the growth of the game.

He said that the handball fraternity must imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and eschew hatred for the good of the game. “Th ere is no hatred in sports that is why it is said people exhibit spirit of sportsmanship after a game. Th e few of us that are willing to work must do our best to bring others to the fold.” President Nigeria Coaches Association, John Jatau said that the premier league coaches forum provides an avenue for handball coaches to deliberate on matters that are important to handball and how to take the game to the next level. He said the national open championship will give smaller clubs and their coaches the opportunity to showcase what they have.

“We have been emphasising on the premier league but we should not be unmindful of the importance of the division II league which the open championship in Benue will address.” Chairman handball premier league coaches forum, Bala Mohammed said the national open championship will allow players from the grassroot to challenge their counterparts at the top level, stressing that the forum aff ord the coaches the privilege to interact and draw up modalities ahead of any championship.
