Happening Now: EFCC quizzes Maina over N2.1bn fraud

Indications emerged, Wednesday night, that the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, was being quizzed by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions (EFCC) over alleged  N2.1 million fraud.

The Department of State Services (DSS) handed over Maina to the commission about three days after he was arrested, alongside his son, a final year student at the Canadian University of Dubai, in Abuja.

The DSS in a press statement by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Peter Afunanya, had earlier in the day confirmed that the services, in a combined operation, on September 30, 2019, arrested the chairman of the defunct task team.

He said, the arrest was effected at the Pennsylvania Avenue Hotel, Utako, following a request by the EFCC to assist in the apprehension of the suspect.

When contacted the EFCC spokesperson, Mr Wilson Uwujaren,  could not confirm the development, however,  a senior officer with the commission told our correspondent that Maina, who had been evading arrest, was being quizzed by EFCC operatives at the time of filing this report.
