Hashidu was national emblem of peace – Gwamna

The Sardauna of Gombe, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, has described the first executive governor of Gombe state, the late Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu as a national emblem of peace.
In a condolence message to Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the Chairman, Gombe state Emirate Council, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar and the entire people of the state on the death of the former governor, Gwamna said he received the news with shock.
In the message signed by Ibrahim Sani Shawai, the Sadaunan stated that: “Our hearts bleed as we grieve for the loss of our national emblem of peace, patron to the core at all levels of social demands.
He saw the interests of his people as the reason for existence and pursued the course of developing his fatherland by serving the State and Nation with the kind of hearts that only melts for the yearnings of the people whom he has been mandated to serve.” According to him, the contributions of Hashidu to Nigeria and Gombe as a politician cut across regimes as he meritoriously served as Minister of Water Resources, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida and, as the first elected governor, created a roadmap for others to build upon.
Hashidu, he said, was also a member of the Vision 2010 committee set up by General Sani Abacha to chart a developmental road-map for the country.
“He was very highly respected throughout Gombe and Nigeria, and his good works changed the lives of many.
We are deeply saddened by this loss, knowing full well that his fatherly advice and words of wisdom would be greatly missed.
But we owe Allah our gratitude for giving Gombe state a gift in Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu.
Sardauna, therefore pray that Allah grant the deceased Aljannatul Firdaus and the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” he added.
