Hausa, Yoruba traders clash in Lagos

A clash between Yoruba and Hausa traders at Oke-Odo Market along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has led to a traffic lockdown in the area, The Cable reports.

Vehicles heading to Lagos from Sango in Ogun state and those moving to Abule-Egba from Oshodi and other parts of Lagos have been trapped.

A resident said trouble started last night when traders at the market clashed over a yet to be known issue.

The situation reportedly escalated on Sunday morning when the traders started burning wares and make-shift tents.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Sunday, August 18, averted what would have ended as violence clash between the Hausa and Yoruba communities in a part of Lagos state. It is not immediately known the reason for the fracas, but the RRS said in a terse statement that its men were on ground to avert the situation and calm nerves. Reacting to a video of the supposed fracas and an inquiry  about the true situation of Ile Epo, the affected area of the state, the police unit said: “RRS and other officers have been on ground, situation under control.”
