Health workers call for implementation of primary healthcare law in Kogi

The national Vice President of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Comrade Onuh Edoka, has appealed to the kogi state government to implement the State Primary Healthcare law  in order to revolutionise the health sector.

Comrade Edoka who made the appeal in Lokoja on Friday during the 14th edition of North-central Zonal Conference of the Union, said the law if implemented would bring all Primary Health Care (PHC) activities under one umbrella called “Primary Health Care Under One Roof” (PHCUOR), for effective and efficient management.

“The new law would revitalise the entire Kogi health sector, because of its multiplier effect on other areas” he said.

Edoka who doubled as the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) bemoan the high shortage of manpower in primary healthcare , stressing that the shortage portend danger to children who are susceptible to health challenges.

Earlier, the Acting Chairman of MHWUN Kogi state council , Comrade Musa Eneji stated that  some of the union members who were cleared during the last screening exercise and those pardoned are yet to be paid their arrears of salaries, appealing to government to pay them.

“Our members in the local government areas have been on perpetual percentage salaries from the previous administration and even till this present administration.

“This has become worrisome as it has demoralized our members at that level, we therefore call on the government to ensure full payment of salaries” he appealed.
