Health workers strike to end soon

There are strong indications that the over six-week old industrial action by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) may soon come to an end, due to an intervention by the President of the Senate, Dr.
Bukola Saraki.
Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Josiah Biobelemoye, told journalists in Abuja on Monday that the workers were optimistic after an intervention meeting with the President of the Senate.
“Following our meeting with Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his team, today (yesterday), after the rally of our members, JOHESU leaders are hopeful that this intervention will lead to a resolution of the strike soonest and further deliberation or discussion on all outstanding issues,” he said.
Secretary of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), FHI branch, Comrade Danison Akinlaya, decried President Muhammadu Buhari’s silence on the matter, adding that “this shows his position on the matter.” “How can the health sector, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, is on strike and the president is not saying anything; Nigerians should be worried.
