Healthcare equipment awaiting clearance at Apapa – Akwa Ibom govt

The Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, has said that hospital and healthcare equipment ordered by the state government were still awaiting clearance at the Apapa Ports.

Ekpo made the disclosure during the presentation of hospital equipment to the General Hospital, Ukpom, Abak local government area under the auspices of Uyo Centennial Lions Club.

The deputy governor called on philanthropic groups and public spirited individuals to partner with government agencies in providing affordable and functional healthcare in the nation.

He urged the public to see themselves as stakeholders in the critical area of functional healthcare delivery for the people.

The deputy governor appealed for a new mind-set and consciousness from stakeholders to see healthcare delivery as everybody’s business, especially in view of its significance and impact in the lives of the less privileged and the vulnerable in our society.

Ekpo said Akwa Ibom government has raised the healthcare profile of the state by adding quality value to every area of healthcare delivery, from infrastructure to medical consumables as well as manpower development.

The deputy governor used the occasion to disclose that hospital and healthcare equipment ordered by the state government are still awaiting clearance at the Apapa Ports.

“When the state government takes delivery of the equipment, many more hospitals and health care facilities will be greatly improved,” Ekpo said.

Ekpo urged members of the public to emulate the gesture of the Lion’s Club by providing humanitarian services to the less privileged.

In his remarks, the Governor of District 404A2 of the Lions Club, Mr Soni Eloma, thanked the deputy governor for his numerous contributions that have helped to advance the cause of Lions.

Responding, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Bassey Umoh, thanked the deputy governor and the Lions Club for the donation.

Umoh said the entire hospital was excited by the visit, describing it as a renewal of hope.
