Healthcare Is Key To Dankwambo’s Vision Of Development

The governor stated at the onset of his administration that his focus on healthcare “is in pursuance of our belief that a healthy population is the best asset that any nation can have, because of its direct link to socio-economic and technological development.” Little wonder then, in a space of just three years in his first term, the governor effectively repositioned the health sector in the state through the provision of much needed infrastructure, enhancement of capacity and morale boosting of healthcare personnel. The Gombe State Government has put a commendable effort into the sector, which ranks as one of the best in the State.
For the past 12 years (Before Dankwambo) the sector, which was in a sorry state, is now exemplary based on the following achievements: Upgrading of urban maternity Idi to Women and Children Hospital Idi, Supply and Installation of X-ray equipment to specialist Hospitals Gombe and General Hospital at Kaltungo and Bajoga, Construction of a dialysis center at the Specialist Hospital Gombe, Supply and Installation of lead living to General Hospital of Kaltungo and Bajoga, Construction of College of Nursing and Midwifery Dukku, Supply and installation of sunfrost vaccine solar refrigerators, Supply and installation of Scanners at Airport for Hajj operation, Construction of 3 and 2 bedrooms staff quarters at cottage Hospital Kuri, Biri and Tula, Conversion of former School of Nursing to Transit camp for specialist Hospital, Gombe, Supply and installation of medical equipment in State health facilities, Expansion of maternity, construction of intensive care unit and construction of modern restaurant at the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, Supply and installation of fi re extinguishers in 22 health facilities in the state, Increasing the number of medical students studying in the health schools in Gombe State.
Others are: Construction of Snake bite treatment center at Kaltungo, Provision of free Drugs to pregnant women and pre-school children, Supply and installation of 2000 high density hospital mattresses to hospitals in the state, Supply and installation of accreditation requirements for the new College of Nursing and Midwifery and Health Technology Kaltungo, Donation of Four Dialysis Machines worth N120 million Naira to Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, Construction of perimeter wall fence of General Hospital Kumo Staff Quarters, Construction of standard and well equipped laboratories for General Hospitals Deba, Nafada and Kaltungo, Construction of hospital staff at General Hospital, Zambuk, supply of 11 clinomobile care equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, Implementation of HATISS and CONTISS salary scale for health workers in the state, Quarterly disbursement of N8 million for purchase of anti-snake venom to the snakebite center, Kaltungo, Free Geriatrics medical care, Free comprehensive medical services for Sicklers work in the offing to build a befitting Hospital at Gona of Akko LGA.
