Heartland dismiss Akpeyi Wolves switch

Heartland FC have dismissed media reports that goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has quit for Warri Wolves.
In a press statement made available to MTNFootball.com, Heartland spokesman, Cajetan Nkwopara, insisted they have not been approached by Wolves for the transfer of the international goalkeeper.

“Akpeyi is part and parcel of the squad our coaches are preparing for the new season. We’ve not sold him to any club and we don’t plan to sell him because he is still needed and he has a contract with us,” Nkwopara said.
The club spokesman dispelled rumours that Wolves had either approached or agreed terms with the two-time Federation Cup champions to have the young goalkeeper transfer his services to Warri.

“We have also read these reports with disbelief. The fact remains that neither Warri Wolves nor any other Nigerian club has come to us for Akpeyi,” he said.
“The only exceptions are the offers from two European clubs which are still being discussed.
“Certainly, Akpeyi would like to go to Europe from Heartland FC and we will encourage him on that.
“He has a good record in Heartland both as a player on the pitch and as a thorough bred young man. In fact he is a role-model loved and idolised by many of our fans.”
Akpeyi joined Heartland about six years ago and was in goal as the Owerri side won the Federation Cup back to back in 2011 and 2012.
