Heat: Bauchi records 4 cases of meningitis

Following excessive heat currently experienced in Bauchi, the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA) has said that four suspected cases of Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis (CSM) have been recorded in the State.


Executive Chairman of the agency Pharmacist Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa disclosed this on Thuraday i

n an interview with newsmen in his office.


According to him, one of the suspected cases was confirmed to be a Streptococcus Pneumonia, a strain which does not cause an epidemic adding that one other case is under investigation as samples had been taken for analysis to confirm whether it is Meningitis or another disease.


While at the Epidemiological Department of the State Ministry of Health, an official who pleaded anonymity confirmed the story assuring however that the Department is working round the clock to ensure that it does not result to an epidemic in the state.


The official however advised that any noticed symptoms should be reported to the nearest health facility declaring that the Ministry of Health has received enough doses of injections needed for the vaccination and treatment of infected persons just as he advised people to always ensure that they get enough ventilation.


It could be recalled that, a suspected case of Meningitis which claimed the life of a 34-year-old man called Mustapha Adamu about a week ago in Bauchi metropolis was reported.
