Heed Jonathan’s advice, NYCN president urges confab delegates

The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Yakubu Shendam, has called on delegates not to depend on past strategies in seeking solutions to contemporary issues, as deliberations at the National conference begins .

Shendam who stated this while speaking to journalists in Abuja admonished them to heed President Goodluck Jonathan’s advice offered while inaugurating the conference, tasking delegates to explore new ideas in handling modern challenges.
On youth demands at the conference, Shendam said the youth were out for the unity of the country adding that, the conference is a platform where policies to mainstream the youths will be made.

“Look at the pictures carried in some national dailies where some elders at the national conference are caught sleeping even when serious deliberations have not started is an indication, that the art of governance needs to include youths and that the youth must be mainstream for national development,” he said
He noted that the problem of Nigeria is not where one comes from but the will to engage the active Nigerian youths in positive venture so as to forestall their use as thugs and agents of mischief.

The NYCN president identified Nigeria Customs Service as one example of agencies that had taken initiative to explore new ideas in tackling modern issues through the “Pre-Arrival Assessment Report’ which has not only created jobs for young Nigerians but increased its revenue generation from N10 billion to N100 billion monthly.

He however regretted that in spite of the benefits the Nigeria Customs Service through its Comptroller-General, people he termed enemies of the country were working hard to draw the country back to the dark age of hiring foreigners to perform core functions of NCS at high cost to the national economy thereby depriving the youth of being employed.
The youth leader called on the President and the Coordinating minister of the economy to ignore those paid agents and continue the political will aimed at Customs Service that will be one of the best globally.
