Hennessey denies ‘Nazi salute’

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has denied making a ‘Nazi salute’ during a night out with team-mates.

A picture was posted by Palace midfielder Max Meyer on his personal Instagram account in which Hennessey appeared with an arm raised and a hand over his mouth.

However, the Wales international took to Twitter on Sunday night to deny making the alleged gesture, explaining: “Yesterday evening I had a meal with my team mates and we had a group photograph.

“I waved and shouted at the person taking the picture to get on with it and at the same time put my hand over my mouth to make the sound carry.

“It’s been brought to my attention that frozen in a moment by the camera this looks like I am making a completely inappropriate type of salute.

“I can assure everyone I would never ever do that and any resemblance to that kind of gesture is absolutely coincidental. Love and peace. Wayne.”

The Crystal Palace team were out for a meal together following their 1-0 victory over Grimsby in the FA Cup on Saturday.

It is understood that Hennessey could face an investigation by his club, or even the Football Association.
