Herders attack Enugu community, injure security guard

The Okpanku Community in Aninri local government area of Enugu state is now in pandemonium following the attack of armed Fulani herdsmen in the community on Easter Monday.
It was gathered that the herdsmen invaded the community and inflicted a security guard with machete cuts which infuriated the residents who are now spoiling to carry out a revenge on the herdsmen and their cattle in the area.
Police have, however, confirmed the incident and efforts are being made to calm the situation.
It was further gathered through an informed source that the Fulani herdsmen were moving their cattle but later went into somebody’s compound, one Barrister Eric Ogudu and started plucking ripe mangoes in the compound.
The source recounted that as they were plucking the mangoes a security guard in that compound (name withheld) tried to stop them, but they refused and in the ensuing quarrel, they inflicted several machete cuts in his arms and shoulder.
According to the source, it was the guard’s shouting that “Fulani people done kill me,” that attracted the attention of the villagers that came out and started pursing them until they reportedly escaped into the bush.
It was also gathered that the owner of the compound, Eric reported the incident to the police at Aniri Divisional Headquarters in Okpanku, who immediately dispatched a team of policemen to the community to calm the angry youth of the community who are bent on fishing out the herdsmen who carried out the attack.
Police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the attack on the community said that police was investigating the incident.
“Police have commenced investigation into the matter,” he said.
