Herdsmen kill 9, abduct woman, injure 16 others in Benue

Nine persons have been killed and 16 others injured when Fulani herdsmen in the early hours of yesterday invaded Tse -Adough in Mbachom, Yaav council ward in Kwande local government area of Benue state.
The herdsmen who were said to have invaded the area around 2am yesterday also abducted one woman and burnt several houses.
One of the locals, Gwaza Tor, who spoke with Blueprint on phone stated that the attackers had laid siege on the village in the dead of the night when the inhabitants were sleeping.
He said the attack was sudden and most of the villagers who had gone to bed only woke up by the deafening gunshot from the herdsmen.
Another local, Mr. Terfa Igyer, who said he narrowly escaped death, told Blueprint that nine persons were killed in the attack.
“Nobody expected that the village would be attacked.
The herdsmen came when almost everybody had gone to bed.
They invaded with guns and other dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically to kill and slaughter our people.
“Some of us narrowly escaped before the killers reached our homes but this morning (Sunday) we discovered that some of our brothers and neighbours were killed.
“We have so far recovered nine corpses and about 16 persons with various degrees of injuries.
“At the moment, the surviving members of the Council Ward are fleeing the troubled spot to Jato Aka and other neighbouring settlements for safety,” he added.
Confirming the herdsmen militia attack, the Chairman of Kwande local government area, Mr. Terdoo Nyor Kenti, expressed pains over the attack on his people.
Mr. Kenti, who said not less than seven (7) dead bodies have been recovered in the area noted that six (6) others left with gunshot and machete wounds.
Kenti also disclosed that one woman has been abducted by the herdsmen militia while several houses were also burnt down.
“At the moment, seven bodies have so far been recovered but they may be more because the attack was in the night and some of the villagers were chased and killed in the bush,” he added
