‘Herdsmen’ kill SARS commander, one other in Oyo village

Suspected herdsmen at a village near Ogboro-Agbone road near Saki area of Oyo state on Tuesday evening killed the commander of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) identified as Sheu and one other member of the Squad.

It was learnt that the two SARS men were at the village with other men of the Nigeria Police Force to investigate an alleged criminal charge against one of the herdsmen with some of the herdsmen said to be attempting to prevent the policemen from carrying out their investigation.

Sources said the situation later turned into violence during which all efforts by the policemen at scaring the rampaging herdsmen failed as the herdsmen were said to have reportedly stormed the scene with some of their cows. The sources stressed that during the confusion arising from the storming of the scene with cows, the informant that led the police team was attacked first and killed, while the leader of the police team, popularly called Sheu, was also macheted to death.

According to the source, others that escaped with injuries were later rushed to Baptist Medical Centre in Saki East local government area where they are now receiving treatment. When contacted, the Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the story, saying that four suspects had been arrested. He added that the Police Command “is presently investigation the violence.”
