Herdsmen lose 604 cattle to rustlers in Plateau

The total of 604 cattle were lost to rustlers within two days in and around Rangil and Gero villages of Jos south local government area and Foron in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state, state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Haruna Boro Hussaini, has said.
He stated this in brief chat with Blueprint yesterday.
He said his association had lost two members in death and 38 cattle.

“Usually, the rustlers are heavenly armed and, on several occasions, they kill our herdsmen and some of the cattle, but luckily, the cattle herders were able to escape during the Gero attack,” he said.
“The stolen cattle in Rangil and Gero belonged to 10 of our members; Alhaji Inusa Adamu lost 125, Abubakar Maishanu lost 90, Dayi Abdullahi lost 62, Mangai Abdullahi lost 50, Idrisa Mogurum lost 51, Rayo Nepa lost 45, Saidu Fari lost 50, Mohammed Ibrahim lost 43, Woda Tilde lost 35, Habu Nepa lost 15.”

The MACBAN chairman explained that, as law-abiding citizens, they had reported the incident to the Special Task Force (STF) Commander, Major General David Eniete, who promised to do everything within his power to recover the stolen cattle.
The chairman said journalists in the state should be fair in their reportage, accusing them of underreporting any attack meted on their members.
“When our cattle are stolen and we are killed, the journalists in Plateau state don’t report it, they get their stories from those who attack us and they never approach us to get our own side of the story,” he added.
