High Court stops APC headquarters from recognising Nasarawa chapter

Nasarawa state High Court sitting in Lafia, the state capital, has granted an order restraining the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from recognising the state chapter of the party, led by Stanley Buba.
The order in the suit also stopped the APC from inaugurating the interim executive pending the hearing on notice.

The matter which was instituted by Hon Nurudeen Omar alleged that the composition of the interim committee ran contrary to the party’s constitution.
Omar, who joined Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in the suit, equally alleged that Stanley Buba and other members of the interim committee were not members of the legacy party as enshrined in Article 7 (iii) of the party’s constitution.
Reacting, counsel to the APC, Barrister Muhammed Elagu Usman, said his client would obey the court, but that his prayer before the court had been overtaken by event.

Earlier, Omar had petitioned the national headquarters of the party alleging   lopsidedness in the composition of the state party’s interim executive.
He alleged that the composition of the interim committee was singlehandedly carried out by Governor Al-Makura without the consultation of the stakeholders.

“I write to complain to your office and to our party, the APC, against the lopsided composition of the state interim harmonisation committee for Nasarawa state which was constituted singlehandedly by the governor.”
According to him, other parties involved in the merger namely ACN and ANPP are not fairly treated.
Omar said out of the 37 positions in the interim exco, ANPP and ACN were given three each while the rest was given to the CPC.
