Crisis is looming in Edo state chapter of the All Peoples Congress (APC) following the dissatisfaction of some members with the party’s ward congress election on Tuesday.
As a result, suspected thugs invaded and razed down the residential home of a former Senatorial aspirant, Mr. Theophilus Okoh, in Ibori, Esan Central council area.
This was even as a faction of the party called on the party’s “national leadership to immediately cancel the purported congresses in Edo state and dissolve its committee.”
A former Edo South Vice chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Amos Osunbor, who made the call in a press briefing, described the exercise as “a charade.”
He said the state congress committee members were invincible during the purported election, adding that “yet results were declared.”
He said: “As if the whole exercise was designed to fail, sponsored violence was observed across Edo South Senatorial District. Armed thugs in government vehicle were seen unleashing mayhem on defenseless party faithful.”
In Esan council area, the thugs were said to have stormed the residential home of the APC Chieftain at about 2.30 am on Tuesday in white Hilux Bus and an SUV jeep.
Reacting to the incident, Okoh simply said “we will see how far they can go; those who said they can achieve anything by violence.”
