Horror as female cyclist crashes, dies

A 32-year-old female cyclist was killed instantly in a horror crash after she collided with a large crane mounted on a HGV in a busy town centre.

The woman was cycling in Headington, Oxfordshire, on Sunday morning when she was involved in a fatal collision with the lorry-mounted crane. 

The cyclist, who has not been named by police, was pronounced dead at the scene and detectives are urgently appealing for witnesses of the crash. 

The incident happened at the junction of Headley Way and London Road at approximately 9.50 am, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said.

“A large crane vehicle was involved in a collision with a cyclist,’ the spokesperson said. ‘Sadly, the cyclist, a 32-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Her next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.’

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant James Surman, of the Roads Policing Unit based at Bicester police station, said: ‘This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a woman.
