Horror as truck crushes soldier in Ogun

A soldier identified as R. A. Nata’ala, was Friday crushed by a truck at Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The truck, marked JJJ 833 XW and laden with granite, was coming from Ajebo-Idi-Aba road, and heading to Ijaye when the incident occurred around 10:30am.

The driver, it was gathered, lost control of the wheels due to brake failure and veered off its lane, crushing the soldier.

The deceased riding a motorcycle marked APP 567 QB alongside other vehicles had stopped at the intersection, obeying the traffic light when the truck crashed into him.

An eyewitness, a female passenger on the motorcycle, escaped death when she jumped off the bike as the truck was dragging her colleague and motorcycle towards a culvert.

The female military operative was said to immediately call soldiers from 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, who hurriedly came to evacuate the deceased corpse.

The driver of the truck was reported to have immediately bolted from the scene of the accident to avoid possible arrest or mob attack.

The spokesman of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, saying the remains of the deceased had been taken to the morgue at the State General Hospital, Ijaye.
