How CSDP helps development plan of Osun govt

The General Manager, Osun state Agency for Community and Social Development Project (CSDP), Mrs Aderonke Funmi Abokede, has said that the agency is in no small way helping to make the development plan of the state government achievable. 


Some of the ways listed by Abokede are: rural electrification, water, health, environment and natural resources, gender and vulnerable, among others. 


Speaking at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, platform tagged “News Point” in Osogbo, Abokede disclosed that CSDP has completed 478 micro projects that has benefited millions of people in 396 communes across the state. 


One of the programme of the state government, according to her, is the improvement of standard of living of the People With Disabilities, PWDs. 


Therefore, she said, the agency has completed four micro projects that has benefited about 3,557 vulnerable in the state. 
She disclosed that the state government, through the agency, has embarked on construction of conducive hostels and classrooms for the PWDs in the state. 


She said the state government is very compassionate about PWDs, hence the efforts to improve their standard of living and ensure that they enjoy adequate treatment. 


According to her, the development centre for the blind and the deaf to enable the PWDs use their skills is under construction.
She disclosed that the agency has completed 478 micro projects across sectors including 169 rural electrification. 


According to Abokede, 396 communities have benefited from the 478 projects that have been completed in Osun state. 


“There are 478 completed gender sensitive, socially inclusive functional micro projects cutting across different sectors in the state and these are immensely contributing to the achievement of the state of Osun development plan under the able leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola. 


“396 communities are empowered to plan, part-finance, implement, monitor and maintain sustainable and socially inclusive multi-sectoral micro-projects. 


Since the programme started operation in 2009, Tokede said over N3billion has been spent on the projects with over N813million contributed by the state government of Osun. 
She said the project, once approved, is fully executed by the community to enable experts among them participate in the implementation of the project. 


“The project uses the Community Driven Development (CDD) that gives control of decision and resources to community groups where Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) of the community needs is carried out and the community members in a democratic manner to manage the project. 


“The actual implementation is done by the community while the agency only facilitate fund, supervise and monitor.”
