How fake prophet killed a housewife for money ritual in Ibadan

It was a state of horror recently in Igbo-Ora as a fake prophet landed in police net after tricking a 35-year-old housewife from Ilorin in Kwara state, strangulated and used her head for money ritual. AGBOOLA BAYO narrates the sordid details.

The rampant cases of get-rich syndrome are no doubt contributing immensely and negatively to the increasing wave of criminality in the society.

Despite the awareness being created by government and concerned stakeholders, any still fall victim to the antics of evil men who pose as agents of help and in many cases as prophets.

In the bid to put an end to such, the Oyo state Police Command just last week uncovered and exposed an inhuman activities of a suspected fake prophet identified as Dotun Ogunlade who, in the course of looking for quick money, killed a 25-year-old housewife and secretly buried her.

Leading heavily armed policemen to the sleepy town of Igboora to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing of the 35-year-old housewife identified as Bosede, the state police commissioner, Mr Shina Olukolu, reeled out findings by men of the state police command in unraveling the untimely death of the housewife in the hands of the fake prophet.

On arriving the town on Thursday June, 20, the police team led by the commissioner of police headed for the shallow grave where the fake prophet dumped and buried the strangulated corpse of the said housewife.

The police chief while briefing newsmen at scene disclosed that the late Bosede was tricked to Igboora by the fake Prophet from Ilorin in the guise of helping her to procure solution to the economic and marital problems facing her.

Olukolu stressed that in carrying out his nefarious plans, the fake prophet tricked the 35-year-old housewife to observe some rest for her to first solve the problem of fatigue as a result of the stress, having travelled for hours from Ilorin to Igboora.

Having bought into the dummy set by the fake prophet, the woman unknowingly surrendered herself during which she was injected with an overdose of sleeping drug by the fake prophet after which he over-powered and strangulated her by cutting her head and arm for rituals and moved her corpse into a shallow grave at Ogboja Area of Igbo-Ora for burial.

According to Olukolu, the command got wind of the nefarious act through credible information and diligent investigation leading the police in Igbo-Ora to smash and arrest the fake prophet and his fellow partner-in-crime, saying that further investigation by the police revealed that parts of her body were allegedly crushed into powder for rituals in order to become powerful and as well rich. He said that the two knives used to kill and cut her body parts with a white cloth bag containing substance inside a gourd where the alleged powdered parts were kept and a bottle of Stallion Schnapps were also recovered by the police.

Confessing into committing the crime, the fake prophet told journalists that he gained church experience from his former boss who was also a prophet in Cherubim and Seraphim Church. According to him, he and the woman have been chatting on Facebook since January this year before they finally met.

“I later invited her to Igboora. Meanwhile, Mutiu, a friend had already told me about his challenges in life. He told me he was ready for money rituals, so, I decided to use the woman for ritual in order to get money for him. When the woman later arrived from Ilorin, I went to pick her to Igbo-Ora from Iseyin. On her arrival at my house on May 31 this year, I gave her sleeping drugs after she complained about pains in her body. She slept off and I cut off her head and arms. Her head was later burnt to ashes for money rituals.”

Speaking about the crime, CP Olukolu has tasked the people of the state to continue to collaborate with police by giving timely and useful information in order to enable them to serve the community better. He said the state police command will continue in its resolute determination to stamp out crimes and criminality in the society. According to him,

“Members of the public should be careful in having absolute trust in individuals or groups who are strangers, especially those they meet on social media or those who claim to possess the power of clairvoyance or ability to combat and treat successfully terminal diseases or possess solutions to social and marital challenges.”
