How Gov Ganduje impacts tricycle operators, mechanics By Abba Anwar

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has made all efforts to impact on the life of tricycle operators and mechanics who cut across all the 44 local government areas of the state. The efforts are well fruited through the training of 1,500 operators to become self-reliant and law abiding road users.
Through the office of the Special Adviser on Automobile Idris Hassan, the Ganduje administration held a special event under Tricycle Operators and Mechanics Empowerment Programme in the 44 local governments, at the Government House Open Theatre, recently.
For the singular reason of developing humanity, especially young ones, governor Ganduje captures that aptly in his remarks at the occasion, “Our government attaches so much importance to empowerment programme, because, at the end, the beneficiaries will be self-reliant.”
Genuine human development remains the main thrust of his administration, as typifies by the Chairman of Empowerment Programmes, Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Muhammad Garba, who revealed that the Tricycle Operators and Mechanics programme was just one out many programmes that would continue to unfold.
Many items were distributed at the occasion, like 1,250 cartons of engine oil was given to the tricycle operators, 1,000 tyres for the selected tricycle mechanics and 250 tool boxes for the mechanics. Each beneficiary gets 2 tyres, a carton of engine oil and a tool box, amongst others.
The programme was in collaboration with the technical partners DAG-BAJAJ. The main reason for the partnership was to make sure that they got skills in the modern way of machine repairing. Technology at work.
“A total number of 2,250 operators underwent two weeks training, while 250 mechanics were trained on the skills needed for fixing tricycles when the need arises. Currently we are training some women selected from across the state,” he says.
To make all the empowerment programmes effective, efficient, robust and sustained, Garba revealed that, the effort did not stop at training people and giving them equipments to work with, “There is a committee in place that goes round to see if the beneficiaries are still on ground. You should always bear in mind that, our people-oriented governor means to empower our people.”
With the intention of creating ease of doing business for the tricycle operators, Governor Ganduje lifted the payment of taxes from them, with the view to allowing them get some relief and engage actively in boosting their businesses.
Looking at it critically clear, one can understand that the central aim of this sort of empowerment programme is mainly aimed at reducing unemployment rate and poverty among the teeming youth.
Earlier before now the state government sent 100 youth to Peugeot Automobile Nigeria, Learning Centre, Kaduna, to be trained to acquire the needed skills to become well trained mechanics.
Governor Ganduje assured that, the state government would soon establish a befitting workshop for the trainees to become fully engaged. The workshop according to him would take away many unemployed youth off the street. It will also be the largest government established workshop in the country.
This is how governance should be. To engage people and make them genuinely busy for them to be productive and skillfully enterprising. This is real human development for societal advancement and opportunities creation.
The Kano state government’s integrated and coordinated efforts in boosting the morale of our teeming unemployed youth, to become self-reliant economically, make the atmosphere to be more bearable and tolerable.
Our youth are now bearing it at the back of their minds that Ganduje’s government means business. They also tolerate each other and see themselves as their brothers’ keepers, because the regime takes them equally and responsibly. Many more empowerment programmes are under way. This hint was dropped recently by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Kano state, Muhammad Garba.
