How jealous wife masterminded death of co-wife in Minna

Death came calling recently on a newly-wedded wife in Minna when out of jealousy, the co-wife murdered her and attempted a cover-up before the culprit was caught in the very act. AIDELOJE OJO reports.

Nineteen year-old Fatima Aliyu Dayi did not have any premonition of her death on March 23, 2021 when she had contact with her brother, Jamilu from 10am to 12pm. In her estimation, without any quarrels, fight or disagreement with her co-wife and senior wife to her husband, Alhaji Aliyu Dayi, she felt at peace and save at her new matrimonial home in Minna. However, that was not to be because within the hours of 1pm and 2pm the same day, the co-wife, Amina Aliyu Nataala, who had pretended to be loving and caring towards her turned violent and attacked her using a pestle. In the process, she killed her in cold blood. Blueprint learnt that Amina did not stop her fury even after Fatima died, but with the connivance of her sisters, she packaged the corpse to be burnt unfortunately, it refused to combust thereby exposing the evil act committed within the house. It was learnt that concerned

called in fire fighters when smokes began to ooze out of the compound fearing it was fire outbreak. It was gathered that on arrival, the firemen were prevented from entering the house by the ladies who were now desperate on how to cover up the corpse which mysteriously was not consumed by the fire.

How it started

Witness account said that argument broke out when the fire fighters insisted on ensuring that the fire was completely out, therefore willing to inspect the house in order to identify the source of the fire and ascertain the extent of damage done. According to the eye witness who pleaded anonymity, the husband, Aliyu Dayi was still in the Kure Market Minna where he deals in food items when the scenario was unfolding. Report said fire fighters eventually gained access into the house and were shocked to discover a dead woman in the room where the fire broke out before her husband rushed to the house. It was also learnt that suspecting foul play, a neighour put a distress call to the police to intimate them about the strange fire and corpse.

Police launches investigations

Officers from Niger State Police Command, it was learnt, have already profiled the case as culpable homicide. In a statement issued in Minna by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Wasiu, he confirmed the incident, saying that some arrest made. According to him, “Niger State Police Command wishes to confirm that on 23/03/2021 at about 1716hrs, one Bello Lawal ‘m’ of Gwari Motors Bosso road Minna reported on behalf of one Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi 45yrs ‘m’ of Mandela road Sauka Kahuta that one Fati Aliyu ‘f’ his second wife and of same address was found laying dead in her pool of blood inside her parlour with part of her body burnt.”The PPRO said immediately the information was received, the command swung into action and arrested one Amina Aliyu age 24yrs of same address, who is a senior and co-wife to the deceased alleged to have killed the deceased with a mortar pestle. Also arrested was a sister to the suspect. He said, “The exhibit used was recovered while investigation has commenced and the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.”However, Blueprint learnt that two sisters of the suspect were involved in the murder and are also testifying before the police on how the murder of Fatima was plotted and executed. It was also learnt that the suspect apparently unable to withstand the uncovering of her plot has taken ill and has been rushed to undisclosed hospital by the police. Security analysts believed that the murder of Fatima was premeditated and consciously executed and that it however misfired when the fire ignited on her corpse did not burn beyond recognition as was intended.Analysts are also of the views that as investigation continues deeper into the murder case, the question of whether the husband had compromised the safety of his deceased junior wife would be determined. It is clear from the police statement that it was not the husband that reported the matter to the police but a neighbour thereby fuelling speculations that a cover up was being hatched before the matter got out of hand.

It’s like a dream to us – family of deceased

Almost a week after the demise of their daughter, the family of the 65 years old Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Sidi Na Khalifa from Katsina state is still in shock and unable to accept the fact that Fatima is no longer alive. Her senior brother, Jamilu Rabiu who spoke with Blueprint captured the mood of the family by saying, “We have never seen any terrible calamity like this before. I seek Almighty Allah not to show us this difficult situation again.“When the sad news came, I didn’t believe. I said it is not true because she was killed about 1pm to 2pm while we had contact with Fatima from 11am to 12pm. Her last status on WhatsApp is at 11.52am. Many members of our family have continued mourning; some bent down not knowing what they are doing at all”.

 How Fatima met her husband

Fatima, according to Jamilu met her husband in Katsina not quite a long time ago during a wedding of one of her friends. It was learnt the Minna-based businessman Alhaji Dayi at the occasion developed love for the beautiful young girl and decided to go into permanent relationship with her. The two became love birds and soon got married. Blueprint however learnt that 54 days after consummating the marriage, the marauders who have been lurking in the shadows from the day of the wedding as intimate friends struck and sniffed off life out of Fatima within the comfort of her home. Checks revealed the Alhaji Dayi who is a wholesale dealer in sugar, flour and indomie in addition to producing local rice with the brand name “AA Dayi Rice” at Kure Market Minna was carrying out his trade in the market when his senior wife struck at home. According to Jamilu who spoke to Blueprint, the family never had any reason to be concerned about the safety of their daughter in the hands of Alhaji Dayi. When asked if there were fights or squabbles between her sister and her co-wife, Jamilu said, “There is no fight or disagreement between them before the incident occurred. My sister, Fatima told me that they have mutual understanding not knowing that the senior co-wife was pretending.”

The murderer should be hanged – Jamilu

Although as Muslims, the family members of Fatima may have resorted to Allah in faith over her untimely death, they are however demanding for justice. Speaking to Blueprint on behalf of the family, Jamilu said family of the deceased would not relent until justice is seen to have been done by hanging the murderer. He said, “I am fully satisfied with the way the police are handling the case. What we seek is for the authority to hang the criminal woman to death so that she can reap what she had planted.”
