Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, Saturday night, confirmed that the state has recorded the 4th and 5th index cases of coronavirus.
The governor who disclosed this in Abakaliki, the state capital said the fourth case was a 22-years-old who lives in Ojo, Lagos state. But left the state to Ebonyi on the April 26, 2020.
He also said the fifth case a 24-years-old lady from Uburu,in Ohaozara local government area, who came into the state with her parents from Enugu state on April 27, 2020.
Though the girl according to the governor tested positive, but the family members remained negative.
His words, “4th case is a 22-year-old boy who lives in Ojo, Lagos state just like the 3rd case. He left Lagos state on April 26 and entered Ebonyi through Nkalagu border, and from there he entered bus to Ezzamgbo Junction.
“Thereafter, he entered cab from Ezzamgbo Junction to Effium, where he boarded Okada (motorcycle) to Ede Ishieke in Ebonyi local government, when he was cut by security men who intercepted him and brought him to the stadium on April 27, 2020.
“By the directive of government, a sample was collected from him and this evening (Fiday), he tested positive. He has been removed from the Isolation center at the stadium and has been taken to the treatment center at the Unity square.
“The 5th case is a 24-year-old lady, a hair dresser from Agwu in Uburu, Umuobuna ward, Ohaozara LGA. She resides at No. 30 queen close Okpara avenue in Enugu. She returned to Ebonyi with her family members on April 27, 2020 to Agwu Uburu. She was picked from Uburu to stadium, while in the stadium, she had contact with the third case. This evening (Friday) her result came out and she tested positive. The family members that she came back with from Enugu were also pick to the stadium and they tested negative.
“However, there are still retained at the isolation center for the next fourteen days. Now, tomorrow (Saturday), I have directed the medical team to go for contact tracing of this fifth case at Uburu in Ohaozara LGA.
“Let me also ask Ebonyians to be very vigilante, and I want to thank the LGA chairmen, traditional institutions and everyone that is committed in fighting this cause. Our strategy given to us by God, we still presume is the best. Imagine if all these five people were allowed to mix freely with our people, by now there would have been an epidemic in Ebonyi state.
“I want to insist that the only way to be effective is to guard the borders. I feel so sad that when a case escaped from one LGA, and is apprehended in the next LGA. We are keeping notes of these indices by LGA authority and we are not happy.
“Why I’m expressing sadness over such indices, I want to continue to encourage those who have taken this cause seriously and plead that all those who still play with it should understand that our lives are involved. The manner where this evil COVID-19 spreads nobody can say. The only thing we owe Ebonyians is to work and pray hard and observe all the policies that Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and WHO gave to us.
“Those who are being treated are responding very well and I’m sure that between the next seven days, they would have been free and reunite with their families that is when they must have tested negative twice.”
