How new Osun Poly alumni excos emerged

The Alumni Association of Osun state Polytechnic, Iree, has elected new executives that will pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.


The executives are: Aderenle Olalekan Adegboye, National President, Yemi Bernard Olurinde, National Vice President (Admin), Kayode Onikola, National Vice President (Academics), Odeyemi W. Anthony, National Secretary.


Others are: “Mrs. Oluwaseun E. Oyelakin, Assistant National Secretary, Mr. Sunday Adebowale, National Financial Secretary, Comr. Ige Oluwasegun E, National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rafiu Terigbade, National Treasurer, Mr. Akeula Kolawole, National Social Secretary and Mr. Abayomi Oduyemi – National Auditor.


Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new executive, A University lecturer, Dr Wasiu Ademola Oyedokun, has called for more funding of polytechnic education in Nigeria to help the country achieve its aim in competing with technological developed country.


Oyedokun, who is a lecturer in the department of English and Literary Studies, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, spoke in Osogbo, during the inauguration of the new executives of the alumni association of Osun state Polytechnic, Iree.


According to him, if Nigeria is serious about technological advancement, the polytechnic must be well funded being the best place where technology could be easily promoted.
He said the alumni association also have their own role to play in supporting their former institution, urging the new executives to partner with the institution for progress.


“Because of the structure of polytechnic education, polytechnic students are doing better in the industries, especially in science and technology. Evidences from the field have shown that polytechnic students are doing marvelously well in the industry.


Speaking on the agitation for the removal of dichotomy between the polytechnic students and their counterpart in the university, Oyedokun said “Polytechnic students should work hard to ensure that they do whatever they could do to maintain high standard so that they can compete favourably with their contemporaries in the universities. 


“I want to advise our government to ensure better funding of the polytechnic sector in such a way that they begin to get some technological innovation, technological advancement, that will be the bedrock.


The Rector of Osun state Polytechnic, Dr. Jacob Agboola, who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Mr Oyeleke Waheed Aleem, commended the alumni for the support to the institution.


He assured them of the institution’s readiness to partner with them for the advancement and development of the institution.


In his acceptance speech, the new national president of the association, Comrade Adegboye Adenre Olalekan, appreciated the old students for the trust reposed in him, promising not to disappoint them.


He called on government at all levels to give priority to polytechnic education, saying “as Nigeria moves towards technology development, polytechnic education is paramount as it gives lots of experience, practical based and technological based. 


“We are grooming towards technology economy where values re going to be greatly determined through the use of technology. That is why we are calling on the government to promote polytechnic education.


He urged other governors in Nigeria to emulate Kano state government and remove the dichotomy between the HND and Bsc.


The National Publicity Secretary of the association, Ige Olusegun Ebenezer, promised that the association would be a good image of the institution.


He urged the government to implement the policy on the removal of dichotomy between HND and Bsc, saying “the policy statement made during former President Olusegun Obasanjo should be implemented.
