How notorious bandit leader Akwaza terrorising Benue, Nasarawa was killed – Army

A notorious bandit, Terwase Akwaza, also known as Gana who had been on the wanted lists of security agencies and the Benue state government since 2016 has been killed by troops of the Nigerian Army at a  border between Benue and Nasarawa states.

Addressing newsmen in Doma, Tuesday night, Commander for Special Forces Command, Doma in Nasarawa state, Maj. Gen. Moundhey Gadzama said the Gana was killed during an exchange of fire in an operation code named Operation Ayem Apkatuma 3.

He said the troops received information on the movements of the dreaded bandit along Gbese – Gboko – Makurdi road and swung into action by blocking the road.

“Troops on operation AAyem Apkatuma 3 moved swiftly and mounted snap road blocks along routs at 1300hrs, there was a meeting engagement with the convoy of the dreaded bandit aka Gana”

Gen. Gadzama said the troops engaged Gana, and his gang in a gun battle which resulted to his death.

He further said 40 of his men have been captured in the operation and are currently under custody to be handed over to the civil authority for prosecution.

He also explained that the corpse had been deposited in the mortuary at an  undisclosed hospital.

Items recovered  during the operation include five AK 47, pistols, three pump action guns, locally fabricated machine guns and revolver pistols among others.
