Huge election budget

When I heard the news of the huge election budget, it didn’t even strike a nerve; probably because there’s a subconscious demand for free, fair and credible elections.
If the N242 billion election budget will guarantee institutionalised free, fair and credible elections, then I may have given it a nod.
But when you consider the state of the nation, you discover that there are more pressing issues to devote huge sums of money to.
From security to the health sector or tattered Educational sector that runs an ‘expired curriculum’, plenty needs a breath of funds.
A close look at the breakdown of the election budget shows huge funds designated to the police among other security agencies and you have the feeling that the backward militarisation of our elections is not ending anytime soon.
