‘Human capacity devt will drive oil sector growth’

 

The Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau has identified human resource development as the most important driver of growth and development in the oil and gas sector.
The Executive Secretary’s remarks on the heel of popular belief that the major drivers and resources of the oil and gas sector were oil reserves, acreages, pipelines, refineries, filling stations, among others.
In a statement by Head, Press and External Relations of PTDF, Kalu Otisi, Dr. Bello noted at the first National Education Summit in Lagos that said despite the dvances in artificial intelligence, automation and human-machine interaction, human resources remained key in the running of oil and gas business.
The Education summit was organised by Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN).
According to the ES, there need to recruit highly competent people to the industry and increase interest among current employees to sustain existing human resource pool.
The question then becomes what can we do to ensure the development of the critical mass of human resources to satisfy the needs of the oil and gas industry and to then ensure the sustainability of Nigeria’s local content aspirations,” he said.
Dr. Bello pointed out that absence of acceptable platforms for the development of skills and capacities for the industry, lack of effective co-ordination and silo approach to development of quality education and usable training, were factors inhibiting the objectives.
