Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has commiserated with families of the 38 people who lost their lives in a boat mishap in Kuna village, Kirfi local government area of Bauchi state.

In a condolence message made available to Blueprint Wednesday in Abuja by her office, the minister described the incident as “very sad, tragic and unfortunate and a huge loss to the families, Bauchi State and indeed Nigeria as a whole.”

She said: “I am deeply saddened by your loss and express my heartfelt sympathy to you. We can only  imagine the pain you are going through as losing loved ones is one of the most difficult experiences a person can have.

“As we mourn this loss and pray for the repose of their souls, I encourage  you to be steadfast in faith and hold on to the Almighty Allah for strength and comfort during this difficult time.”

It could be recalled that the sad incident occurred on Monday, October 7, while the victims were on their way to their farms in a canoe which capsized in a river, though out of 40 people in the canoe, only two people escaped the boat mishap.

The incident has since generated concerns across board, including the state governor, Bala Mohammed, who donated N10 million to families of the victims during a condolence visit to the families of the victims.
