Humanitarian affairs minister Sadiya reaffirms commitment to joint union cooperation 

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has reaffirmed her commitment to cordial working relationship with the Joint Union in the effective implementation of the ministry’s mandate.

Hajiya Farouq made the remark during the ministry’s First Union Week celebration, held December 22, at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Abuja.

The minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Nasir Sani Gwarzo, commended the Union for working hard and being respectful to the management.

She stated that training is a right for all staff, and the resultant effects it has on staff productivity could not be overemphasised.

Hajiya Sadiya promised to approve more training for staff according to the budget. She highlighted other welfare packages such as the provision of more staff buses for the transportation of staff and acknowledged the newly promoted staff. 

The minister said the ministry would be relocating to its new befitting permanent site this year, while digital identity cards would be produced for all staff of the ministry and charged the Union to continue to have a harmonious working relationship with the management.

In his goodwill message, the Director Human Resource Management of the ministry, Mr. Tokumbo Rufai thanked management, especially the minister and the permanent secretary, for the opportunity given to organise the First Union Week since the inception of the ministry. 

He also appreciated the union executives for their conducted and presented their matters to the management of the ministry. 

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria Joint Union of the ministry, Mr. Amana Ogwu, said this was the First Union Week to have been organized since the creation of the ministry and expressed appreciation to the minister and permanent secretary for their support to the welfare and plight of the staff.

Ogwu reminded the management that the major responsibility of the Union was to always stand and engage the authority for the well-being of staff.

The high point of the event was the presentation of awards by the Joint Union Chairman to the minister, permanent secretary, some directors and deserving staff for their outstanding performance and hard work.
