Humanitarian Day: Save the children Int’l stages appreciation dinner in Yobe

As part of the activities to celebrate 2022 World Humanitarian Day, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Save the children International, on Friday organised a special dinner to recognise humanitarian personnel and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes in Yobe state.

The celebration of the 2022 humanitarian workers’ day dinner took place at Ceders conference hall in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.

In his humanitarian day speech, Yobe state field manager Save the children International, Mark Umaru, said every year globally, aid workers come together and celebrate World Humanitarian Day.

Umaru stated that for 2022 humanitarian day with the theme “Human Race”, they are basically celebrating all the humanitarian workers who have selflessly put themselves to ensure that the most vulnerable people were reached with live-serving assistance.

“Here with us today, we have the humanitarian communities which consist of International INGOs, UN agencies, National NGOs, CSOs, as well as government stakeholders. So it’s a gathering of the entire humanitarian community.

“At the end of the exercise, I will like to see the humanitarian workers appreciating themselves, because most of the times we give our time to support others, but is good to also come to recognise our achievements, challenges, experiences and basically just to appreciate ourselves for the work that we do,” Yobe SCI field manager said.

Also speaking, the Education Coordinator Safe the children Yobe, Cleobas James, said the day is celebrated every year for humanitarian workers as a way to remember the sacrifices people make for the lives of the vulnerable.

“We come together on annual basis on a day like this, which is 19th of August to be able to celebrate, remember, look at the past. We refresh our minds and focus on what it’s is coming ahead.”

On her part, the livelihood coordinator, Yobe Save the children International, Hadiza Usman Yusuf, said the day was important due to the various purposes it served.
