Hunters foil attack on Adamawa villages, kill Boko Haram commander

A massive Boko Haram raid on Bakin Dutse, and Gadamayo villages in Madagali, Adamawa state, was averted by local hunters who, eventually killed top insurgents commander, local offi cials have confi rmed. Th e insurgents had, on Monday night, attacked two communities of Nyibango and Muduhu in the Madagali. “But our brave hunters deployed to assist soldiers engaged the insurgents who fl ed. Few weapons were seized from them. “Th is came less than two days after an attack on three villages in the same area.

Th ey were on rampage to steal food and medical supplies; even on Monday’s night they raided Nyibango and other village,” chairman of the Council, Yusuf Muhammad, said. Meanwhile, the spokesman of the 28 Task Force Battalion, Mubi, Major Akintoye Badare, could not be reached as at the time of fi ling in this report. However, the spokesman of the hunters in Madagali, Ali Hammajabu, said: “Yesterday at about 11pm our hunters successfully averted attempted massive raid on villages of Bitu, Gadamayo and Bakin Dutsi.

“Th e terrorists who were on their way to attack selected communities were ambushed on receiving intelligence report; we engaged them and in the process a Boko Haram commander who was in a military half-dress with plain hair was killed. “Th e dead Boko Haram commander was wearing a vest that belonged to one of our famous commanders, Bukar Jimeta, who was killed by the insurgents, recently. “We saw the corpse this morning, and there were signs of blood indicating that some corpses were dragged. ‘’We found two AK47 rifl es and a police teargas canister which we handed over to soldiers in Madagali.’’
