HYPPADEC to assist flood disaster communities

Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has set the machinery in motion to assist communities affected by floods last year in all of its catchment areas.

Disclosing this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Friday on the activities of the organisation in separate interviews, the chairman, Governing Council, Barrister Joseph Terfa Ityav, said the affected communities would soon receive relief materials from the federal government.

He said already the Commission had captured all the victims and their degrees of loss in flooding where the majority of farming families lost crops, livestock and even shelter.

“The idea is for us to go round the flood disasters areas to hear, see on ground what people really needs at a particular local government so that we ascertained their demand and yearnings then base on that succour is provided.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has done the right thing at the right time by establishing the Commission in fairness to the people of power-producing states that include Kebbi, Niger, Kogi, Benue, Kwara and Plateau,” he said.

In his remarks, the managing director, HYPPADEC, Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar Yelwa, said the governing council had earlier visited at least four states and had also paid physical sight-seeing visits to most affected towns, villages and the hinterlands.
