I am under pressure to contest for Edo guber- Agba

The immediate past Minister for State, Budget and National planning, Mr. Clem Agba has said a lot of persons have been talking to him to run for Edo state governorship poll schedule for 2024.

Agba, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) however, said he would consult with his family, friends and the party leadership before taking a decision.

The ex-minister who disclosed this when he paid an unscheduled visit to Edo State Secretariat of  Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday, “thanked journalists for support in terms of reportage I got in the course of my work”.

On the governorship contest, Agba said: “Have I taken a decision? No! This is because the governorship goes beyond an individual.

“I have to consult with with friends and the party leadership. If there’s a consensus that I am qualified and the party thinks that that’s what I should do, …why not?

“So, I am not ruling out out the fact that if the opportunity comes in the future it may not happen. You know I am unemployed; and I am looking for work”.

The ex-minister while also responding to questions from journalists said he had secured #75 billion for the ongoing contract for the construction of Benin- Okene road through tax credit system.

He said the development was in collaboration with his then colleague in the Federal ministry of works and the chairman, Federal Inland Revenue, adding that an additional #10 billion was captured in the 2023 budget for the road

Agba however noted that a review of  the contract with the construction firms to meet currently realities was yet to be completed before the administration exited office, but said “government is  continuous”.
