I can’t dump PDP-Tondo declares

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue state, Mr John Tondu, has said he would be the last person to defect from the party, saying he is solidly behind the PDP and Governor Samuel Ortom, who is the party’s flag-bearer in the state.

Tondo was one of the aspirants who contested in the PDP governorship primaries against Ortom and was the first runner up in the race.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Makurdi, Tondo said that he would not defect from the party, rather he would work assiduously to ensure that the party emerges victorious by winning the presidential, governorship seats as well as National Assembly and House of Assembly seats.

He expressed optimism that the party would win most of the seats both at the state and national levels because the All Progressives Congress (APC) had failed to keep to its 2015 campaign promises.

According to Tondo, he has a strong belief in institutions rather than human beings.

He stressed that if there are things going wrong in an institution, it is usually better to stay and strengthen them and not to leave for another institution.

”This is my personal philosophy and conviction, as such, I believe in the Peoples Democratic Party as an institution and not in the people that constitute it.

”I will forever continue to work for the party by strengthening its structures in order to become a better and more formidable party.

”On this note, I urge all my supporters who stood by me throughout the period of the consultations to the primaries to give their unflinching support to all the party’s candidates to enable them emerge victorious during the general elections.

”Politics as far as I am concerned is not and supposed not to be a

do-or-die affair. In every contest, there must be a winner or  winners”, he said.
