I fix nails rather than thuggery

Chigozie Anuchie 26, who is a nail technician at Garki market would prefer to trade the path of honour by working hard no matter how humble the starting point was than engage in thuggery. He explained how he started the business and how it paid him well. ADEOLA TUKURU reports.

‎Chigo, as popularly known by his customers is young and hard working man who is also an orphan resides in Mpape a surbub along Nicon Junction, FCT with his 3 siblings did not consider the way of degradation, taking poverty as an excuse.

While recounting to Business Starter, after fruitless efforts to find a job with his Ordinary National Diploma certificate (OND) , he went to learn manicure and pedicure.

How he started the business

He explained how he borrowed ‎N3,000 from her friend as a start capital to keep the business floating.

“After one year training and apprentiship . I borrowed 3,000 to buy File, Polish, Bouffer and different kinds of paints.

First reaction of his customers

“At first my customers where afraid that I may not be able to fix their nails because am a man but when I started and they were satisfied , I started getting customers.

“Some don’t mind waiting for long hours just for me to handle their nails while some calls me for home service.

“I don’t regret doing the business because it has been able to make me live up my responsibilities as the oldest child of my late parents by taking care of my 3 siblings and assisting them through school. 

Chigo had only several hours for sleep per day to ensure he meets up with his customers demand.

His gains

Regarding his earnings, the young hard worker managed to save up to N 20,000 monthly, which amount he deposited in a bank.

 By saving money he ensured that his sibling didn’t miss school and also their welfare.

“I also wish to further my education but I will keep struggling till I achieve my goal, I won’t sit and wait for anybody to take advantage of me”

Advice for his peers

When asked to give advice to his peers experiencing hardships, he recommended them to understand the value of dignity in labour and create legal job opportunities for themselves.
