‘I killed 2 persons after returning from prison,’ ex-convict confesses

A 21-year-old ex-convict, Gbenga Tope, aka Jembe, Tuesday confessed that he killed two persons when he returned from prison in February.

He explained that the killing was carried out deliberately in retaliation of the killing of his elder brother, Jasper, by members of Aye confraternity in 2017.

The suspect who was paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, in Osogbo, confessed that he belonged to the Eye confraternity from Ilesa.

Admitting that he was caught with gun during a raid on one house, the suspect said, “I used the gun for my personal protection against rival group (Aye) when I came back from the prison and discovered that the rival group (Aye) was pursuing my life.

“It was this same rival group that killed my brother aka Jasper in 2017. Same rival group shot me after I came back from prison. So, I ran to the person that initiated me into (Eye) fraternity for help that (Aye) rival group was after my life.

“My initiator gave me a gun. I have used the gun to kill two of the rival group this year in February at Asoje vicinity area where Lekan Emir resides but I could not remember their names and the date I killed them.

“What led me to prison at first time was the tussle between my initiator (aka forilamoney) whom I helped to sell Indian hemp and one person called Ori agbo. The battle was very fierce that got Ori agbo severely injured. The duo hailed from the same compound. Oriagbo also sells and deals in India hemp at Obatedo.

“Out of the past battle, Oriagbo invited my boss Forilamoney to an hotel in Aresa at Oke Abesu. He called me to follow him unknown to us that Oriagbo had planned to deal with my boss Forilamoney with the support of one Lukman and some others who had lay siege for us inside that hotel.

“We were ambushed by Oriagbo, Lukman and others called upon to deal with us, therein Oriagbo turned to us and said the past event still ring bells in his mind. Therein, we got arrested and I landed in prison. I kept my gun where I was raided by the police.”

Three other suspects, Adejumo Olalekan (48), Rafiu Olaniyi (50) and  Lawal Akinloye (48), who specialized in car snatching, were also paraded.
