A governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change in 2011, Alhaji Haruna Saeed said he left the governing All Progressives Congress because President Muhammadu Buhari refused to
pick his calls or acknowledge messages from him after becoming president in 2015.
The aggrieved former Buhari ally told his supporters at the weekend in Kaduna that since President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as president 2015 he has totally dumped those who worked closely with him in the hope a new Nigeria, prompting his leaving the APC.
He said, in 2011 he “contested against the late Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and was leading when results started coming in but along the line, the INEC officials suspended the collation of the result on what
they called security trade and later the state government declared a curfew only for Yakowa to be declared governor-elect the following day”.
The former CPC governorship candidate who was the accountant general of Kaduna state under the military governor, Brig. Gen Jafaru Isa and later Ahmad Muhammad Makarfi, said he challenged the election outcome in the tribunal but lost even when the case was on.
According to him, Buhari then called him and advised him not to waste his money because the system was so corrupt that he would not get justice.
He explained to his supporters for the first time that Buhari has neither offered him appointment nor contract as was being speculated by those close to the president.
He said at a point, he was so desperate to meet President Buhari but the president refused to pick his calls or acknowledge his text
messages, hence he decided to contact Brigadier General Jafaru Isa (retired) to assist him reach out to the president, but after several weeks, Jafaru Isa told him that he could not reach the president. “In
fact, he even tried through Senator Bola Tinubu but this too did not work out”, he said.
Saeed said at this point, he had no choice but to defect to the Social Democratic Party because his supporters were putting pressure on him to run for Kaduna governorship again, describing the APC government in
Kaduna as lacking in internal democracy since it has been pocketed by a few individuals.
The former state attorney general did not tell his supporters at the meeting who to vote for as president between Buhari and Atiku in the forthcoming elections but stressed that the PDP severally approached
him to enter an alliance with the party, which he was still making consultations about.
He expressed the fears that the 2019 general elections might come with series of crises, and urged Nigerians to pray hard so that the election would not be a do or die affair that would return the citizens to the dark days.
