All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2019 general election, Chief Adebayo Adelabu  has disclosed that he will still become a governor of Oyo state come 2023 general elections.

Chief Adelabu stated this in Ibadan Thursday while speaking at a press conference organised as part of activities to mark his 50th birthday anniversary.

The APC governorship candidate emphasized that with the unity now returning to the APC in Oyo state, there is no doubt that the incumbent governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde and the ruling party in the state would be dislodge come 2023.

According to Adelabu, if not for the 2019 coalition of parties against him and APC, then, there was no way Engr Makinde would have won the governorship election.

He stressed that with the collapse of the coalition that produced Engr Makinde as governor, it will be very easy to dislodge the governor and his ruling party.

“I lost the last governorship election to the coalition of political parties. It was the result of the coalition that dislodged APC. The coalition is no longer there today. The coalition is no more, it has collapsed . You won’t see it until 2023”, he said.

The APC governorship candidate stressed that as at now with the collapse of the coalition, it will now be the issue of individual popularity, saying, “Baba Ladoja, Senator Lanlehin and others have left the coalition, if you removed the votes of others in the coalition from Maninde’s votes then, if we contested on individual platform, Seyi Makinde would have come third”.

Speaking further, Chief Adelabu stated that another factor that would work in favour of the APC come 2023 will be the “poor performance of the present administration of Engr Seyi Makinde, saying, “with over one year in office, this government has not done anything significant in office”

He stressed that his governorship ambition “is still alive and will never died”, saying, “my interest in contesting the governorship race is still existing and it will never died”.

Speaking on the 2019 governorship election, Chief Adelabu said he was happy for losing the election, as he is now wiser politically and understand politics better .

“I am happy that I did not become the governor in 2019. It made me to be wiser, to get closer to party leadership and structure. Now, I am at the driver’s seat, I am now wiser when it comes to politics”.
