I ‘ll make Rivers NYSC camp best nationwide – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has re-emphasised the commitment of his administration to make National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai,  the best in Nigeria. 

He stated this on Monday at the camp, while presiding over the the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 orientation course exercise for corps members deployed to the State. 

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman NYSC state governing board, Dr. Tammy W. Danagogo, Wike stated that the brand new transformer he approved for the orientation camp was to enable it to be connected to the national grid so as to improve on power supply and thereby create a more conducive environment for corps members on camp. 

Wike further stated that the on- going reconstruction of the camp internal roads, the  5000-capacity amphi-theatre auditorium, renovation of hostels, supply of brand new 1500 double-bunks bed and 3000 mattresses as well as payment of monthly stipend to all corps members in the state was to motivate them and boost their morale for optimum performance while they serve their fatherland. 

The governor enjoined the corps members to reciprocate the government’s gesture by executing viable community development service, cds projects in their host communities  and remain law abiding, disciplined and committed towards making a positive impacts in the lives of the people of their host communities.  

He warned them against embarking on unauthorised journeys which he said can bring adverse consequences on them such as extension of service and road traffic accidents, urging them to do everything they can to stay alive. 

Earlier, the Coordinator of NYSC in the State, Mr. Chinwendu Chukwu, informed the governor that the corps members and camp officials were outstanding in their performances throughout the camping exercise. 

He urged the corps members to accept their posting in good faith and be good ambassadors of the scheme in their host communities. 

Mr. Chukwu appealed to principals of public and private schools to accept the services of the corps members posted to them in order to enhance the educational standard of the students. 

The closing ceremony was well-attended and it also witnessed inspection of camp facilities by the governor’s representative.
