I never knew I shot him dead, suspected robber cries out

A-18-year-old suspected armed robbery suspect, Mr Chimezie Aronu, one of the three suspects nabbed for allegedly robbing and fatally shooting one Ifeanyi Nwanga at Ifitedunu, has confessed to have accidentally shot the deceased, but said he never knew the victim died from the gunshot wound.

Aronu was arrested alongside Chibuike Omankwu and Uchenna Obiora who all reportedly confessed to the crime and led the officers to where they hid the gun they shot the victim with, a cut to size single barrel gun and one cartridge were recovered.

He said he dropped out of SS2 when his parents could no longer pay for his education and after learning how to barb, joined a gang that robs people at deserted places, and they had robbed a lady of her itel phone and were making away on a bike when an okada operator, Nwanga made to block them.

According to Aronu, he mistakenly pulled the trigger and shot the man, but luck ran out of them as they were caught by people of Umunnachi community and handed over to the police.

Blueprint reports that the trio among 13 other suspects aged between 18 and 24 were yesterday, paraded by the Anambra state Police command at the police headquarter for various crimes.

Also another robbery suspect,Obum Rapuruchukwu, who allegedly belonged to a gang of four who specialize in robbing cars, claimed that members of his gang also caught were Emeka Iheanacho, Nwobodo Kosichukwu and Ekene Edeh.

Others paraded were car suspected snatching syndicates, Ebuka Emekwite and Uchendu Afunwa, who allegedly conspired to rob one Linus Emeka of his Lexus jeep with registration number ENU 779 NX and one berretta pistol with six rounds of live ammunition of 0.9 mm were recovered from them, and Clement Mmaduabuchi, reportedly caught by the criminal investigation department with a fabricated pistol and six live cartridges confessed to being an armed robber.

The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Garba Umar said they were arrested by police operatives attached to the special anti-robbery squad for robbing one Chizoba of Nsugbe of his Acura Jeep with Reg No AA 114.

Umar thanked members of the public for assisting the police in capturing the suspects and encouraged them to report any suspicious person to the nearest police station or through the command emergency number 07039194332.
