Hussaina and Hassana Yusuf are 22-year-old identical Fulani twins from Borno state who joined Hausa film industry about two years ago and have since been making waves in the industry. In this Interview with ALIYU ASKIRA in Kano, where the duo were caught preparing to go for a film shooting, Hussaina says though she and her twin-sister are like Siamese twins, she once went out with her sister’s boyfriend
Tell us a bit about yourselves?
We are from Borno state, Fulani by tribe and we joined Kannywood about two years ago. But we did our primary school at Gwange Primary school in Maiduguri before we proceeded to Federal Government College, Maiduguri and later obtained a Diploma in Social work from University of Maiduguri, before relocating to Kano state. So far we have featured in several films which includes, KUDIRI, SAINAYI KUDI, and TALATU NUMBA DAYA with the king of Kannywood Ali Nuhu as the lead actor, though the film was suspended when Ali Nuhu collapsed on location and had to be hospitalized. This is the second time Ali Nuhu is collapsing on location recently. Hassana is also engaged in Dadinkowa television series for Arewa 24.
How did you join Kannywood?
We joined kannywood 2 years ago through a family friend, one Alhaji Dalhatu, when we moved down to Kano after our family became displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency. Later we met Falalu Dorayi, Sadiq Mafia and now Muhammed Salisu officer.
How do your boyfriends differentiate you, I mean to know which one is Hassana and Hussaina?
Well, like I told you earlier we are 22 years old and we have never gone out separately. Although, one day when Hassana’s boyfriend came to our house and she was busy, she asked me to go and attend to him, and pretend that I am Hassana. I did it successfully and we chatted for a very longtime with him but he never discovered, although ever since that incident, we promised never to play that kind of expensive game again. However, for those that are interested in differentiating us, I would say am fatter than Hassana and she also talks much more than I do. And she now works with Dadin-kowa television of Arewa-24. One can visit her during office hours when she is alone, even though always waiting for her to finish work so that we could go home.
Can you marry set of twins?
No, that is our answer the true is if we get decent people that will marry us, we are ready to settle down even today, but none of us will marry before each other. We want to marry on the same day. However, Marriage is a life project, don’t marry us because we are celebrity, marry us because you love us and when you are broke we will stay with you. We have seen successful marriages in kannywood, like Mansurah Isah and Sani Danja, Zainab Idris, Zainab Raga and Muhibbat Abdulsalam.
What is this deep black spot on your forehead?
We want to enter paradise. What you are seeing on our forehead is an after-effect of our constant midnight prayers, it is not ordinary. We are deeply religious, am sure one may ask why we are into this profession instead of going to Islamiyyah School since we want to go to paradise. The answer is we are happy with what we are doing. We did not join kannywood because of money, we are here to educate people especially women on human values.
