I will combine law making and Agric – Atsaka

House of Assembly candidate for Makurdi South constituency on the platform of Labour Party (LP), Comrade Kris Atsaka yesterday said he will combine effectively the function of law making, oversight and representation to promote agriculture.

He is to ensure food sufficiency, security, agro-allied activities and revamp food basket status of Benue state if elected.

Atsaka made this known when he appeared before the ‘Political Dialogue’ organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue state council in Makurdi, for candidates of various elective positions

in the state.

Speaking at the Programme which commenced yesterday, Atsaka regretted that the legislative arm has for a long time become a rubber stamp to the executive arm because of selfish interest.

Atasaka who is former Chairman of NUJ, Benue Council frowned at the deficit in governance, especially in areas of roads, health care, water supply and other social amenities.

Comrade Atsaka also stressed on the need for revision of existing laws as well as strengthening procedures for the implementation of such laws, pledging to raise motion to tackle flooding in his constituency.

He promised to legislate on tax regime to promote mass investment and realization of the full potentials of the business class, artisans and general commercial activities of the state.

According to him, he will engender good governance to attract development in his constituency and the state at large if elected in the general election.

Kris said he will ensure that public hearing which is lacking in the state, is reinforced to enhance massive participation in law making.

“To achieve this, a focused and deliberate lobby and persuasion of other members in the 9th Assembly will be adopted to review existing laws and enact existing ones,” he added.
