Ibadan DISCO to stop estimated billing

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IEDC)has assured its customers in Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara and parts of Ekiti, Kogi and Niger states that it would soon eradicate the practice of estimated billing and energy theft with its robust metering system.

The principal manager, public affairs, IBEDC,Tokunbo Peters, who made this known, also reiterated the company’s commitment to the metering of all the customers under its network.

He said arrangements had been concluded for the mass procurement of split unit prepaid meters that would be deployed in the premises of existing customers, who are presently on estimated billing, as well as new applicants.
He said the best meters that would efficiently serve the interest of the customers and the company would be deployed across the states.

“The preferred meters will not only correct the problem of estimated billing, but they will also put a stop to the perennial problem of energy theft by people who circumvent the pre-paid meters.

“Ultimately, the company believes that the mass deployment of these set of meters in its network will encourage customers in its franchise area to adopt its policies of energy conservation by avoiding wasteful use of electricity,” he said.
IBEDC also warned its customers to be wary of “unscrupulous people trying to take advantage of the current lull in electricity metering to make some quick money.”

It insisted that it had not authorised anybody to collect money on its behalf for meters.
“Anybody who demands for money should be reported immediately to law enforcement agents.”
