Ibadan: Two killed in clash between Okada riders, correctional service

No fewer than two persons were feared killed in Ibadan Tuesday in a clash involving men of the Nigeria correctional service and commercial motorcyclists at  Agodi  area of the town

Eye  witness account said the clash paralysed activities at the ever busy Agodi Gate – Iso part area end  with traders and passersby scampering for safety as the warring parties engaged in free for all.

Sources said trouble started when men of the correctional centre reportedly ordered the motorcyclists to move away from a park located close to the Ibadan correctional centre with the motorcyclists resisting.

The argument over the parking slot, according to the eye witness account resulted into hot argument and the eventual free for all when one of the officers of the correctional centre reportedly hit one of the motorcyclists identified as Alfa and he reportedly collapsed .

This, according to the witness, sparked off the free for all as other motorcyclists at the park on sighting the Alfa on the floor mobilised and launched counter attack on men of the correctional service with the latter shooting sporadically into the air to scare the rampaging motorcyclists from further attacking them.

Sources said it was during this confusion that another person was hit by stray bullet while others sustained injuries attempting to flee the troubled area for safety.

Oyo state Police Command spokesman, SP Lawrence Fadeyi, in a statement on the clash said the clash was between officers of the correctional service and okada  men stationed at Agodi gate, area of Ibadan.

“Contrary to the currently trending news online, that police men fired shots leading to injury at Agodi gate area this morning , the truth is that there was a clash between officers of the correctional service and bike men stationed at Agodi gate,” he said.
